Six questions for … Christopher Çolak

Istanbul-based visual communication & type designer Christopher Çolak is currently working as an art director.

Which work are you particularly proud of? Which work best represents your style or approach?
I am a music writer, radio programmer & DJ besides being a visual communication designer. While not working as an art director, I spend most of my time on music. Halfstereo was my first project in which I implemented my design knowledge on a fully music related conceptualization for the first time.

What inspires you?
Istanbul.

Which character/letter would you take to a deserted island?
I would prefer a diacritical mark rather than a letter. A breve, so I can use it as a boomerang.

TYPO Berlin 2011: What are you especially looking forward to?
I am looking forward to meeting lots of creative and similar people.

For TYPO-veterans: Your favorite TYPO-moment?
It’s my first time.

Required reading: What are currently your favorite interesting/beautiful publications, books and links?
‘Typographic Matchmaking In The City’ by The Khatt Foundation is a fantastic book that inspires me as well as ‘Helvetica and The New York City Subway System’ by Paul Shaw. Both books are must haves for vernacular & system lovers.
