In 1980 he started Hyphen Press to reissue Norman Potter’s book »What is a designer«. In the 1980s and 1990s he was mainly active as a writer. Since then he has concentrated on working as editor and publisher with Hyphen Press. Robin´s Talk is on Saturday at 11 AM at the TYPOhall.

Which work are you particularly proud of? Which work best represents your style or approach?

The first book we published, now in its fourth edition: Norman Potter’s »What is a designer«.

What inspires you?
Small groups, each person working together, each one bearing responsibility, with a plan but without hierarchy and without a conductor. For example, The Bach Players.

Which character/letter would you take to a deserted island?
OurType Arnhem

TYPO Berlin 2011: What are you especially looking forward to?
The lecture by Roland Reuß.

Required reading: What are currently your favorite interesting/beautiful publications, books and links?
»61: The Spurs double«. The book tells a wonderful story: in 1961 Tottenham Hotspur won both the English football league and the cup competition. Similar to Ajax in the early 1970s or Barcelona now, they were a collective working together without hierarchy. The book is well printed and well bound (thread-sewn and cold or ‘dispersion’ glue). Of course, it was made in China, where these old binding methods still survive.
