Six questions for … Kris Sowersby

Today: Kris Sowersby. Kris runs the Klim Type Foundry, Wellington, New Zealand. His typefaces combine historical knowledge with contemporary craftmanship and finish. In 2010 Sowersby was named an ADC Young Gun.

Which work are you particularly proud of? Which work best represents your style or approach?

I think I am still quite proud of National. It was only my second retail typeface, but seems to hold up quite well.

What inspires you?
Deadlines & graphic design.

Which character/letter would you take to a deserted island?
Anthon Beeke’s ‘M‘ from his ‘Alphabet‘, issued by Steendrukkerij De Jong & Co as part of their Kwadraatblad series.

TYPO Berlin 2011: What are you especially looking forward to?
Meeting the locals and having a few beers. I’ll also be interested in the response to my presentation.

Required reading: What are currently your favorite interesting/beautiful publications, books and interesting links?
Process Journal is currently smoking my tyres. Best design magazine in ages.
