“Book Designers from the Netherlands” was presented by its author Brigitte Schuster on Friday. This refined book is published under the label Brigitte Schuster Éditeur and was launched just recently at the Special Collections, part of the Library of the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

A slightly nervous Christian Hanke got on the stage and after telling us about his student days in Chicago, he confidently jumped to the meat of the presentation which was nothing less than an impressive overview of what he has been building the last few months in Edenspiekermann.
After Russia and Poland in 2013, the Netherlands are the partner country of TYPO Berlin this year. With Joost Grootens, Erik van Blokland, Paul van der Laan, Petr van Blokland, Peter Bil’ak and Gerrit Noordzij we have some veritable institutions of Dutch design in the program. In addition to this, we also have two exhibitions of graphic design from the Netherlands set up in the in the foyer of the HKW, which shouldn’t be missed! Let me start by saying: Sarah Illenberger is a true source of inspiration. She not only strives to be a generalist by combining the art of illustration, graphic design and photography, but also constantly challenges herself in terms of materials and methods.
Danish designer, Daniel Gjøde managed to condense all that’s happened since he spoke at TYPO Berlin 2006 in just 45 minutes in his presentation “Out of our minds – How to achieve everything we have … in a much shorter time.”
Boris Brumnjak ist Sammler, Dozent, Grafikdesigner und Geschäftsführer einer Druckerei, in der er seine Liebe zum Papier und zu Farben ausleben kann. Seit etwa 15 Jahren sammelt er mit größter Leidenschaft Schwarz-Weiß-Plakate. Im letzten Jahr wurden erstmals seine 100 absoluten Lieblingsmotive der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert und begeisterte in der »Kunsthalle Luzern« nicht nur die Besucher.
It is hard to sum up the experience that is Aaron James Draplin. Where to start? Draplin commands the attention of the audience with bold slides including an official DDC disclaimer and a fair warning to coders that his presentation will not include any sort of code languages. He establishes his presence on stage with seemingly appropriate vulgarity mixed in with motivational statements. Regardless of what the audience thinks, he explains that he probably shouldn’t be up on stage since he lacks credentials or professional accolades.
Elliott Earls is the head of the Graduate Graphic Design Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He’s a graphic designer who blurs the line between graphic design and art. He’s also a performer and artist whose work has been represented in major art museums. This afternoon, at Typo San Francisco 2014, Earls was all of these things — and a dynamic speaker with some very quotable takeaway points.
