Die 5 beliebtesten TYPO-Sprecher 2009

Es wurden in der Zwischenzeit so viele Stimmen abgegeben, dass wir ein erstes amtliches Ergebnis verkünden können.

Die beliebtesten Sprecher/innen der TYPO 2009 sind Chip Kidd, Joshua Davis, Mario Lombardo, Philippe Apeloig und Mrs. Eaves alias Gemma O’Brien. Wir gratulieren. Noch kann weiterhin abgestimmt werden … es winkt ein Ticket für die TYPO 2010.

    Wieso gibt es eigentlich bester/schlechtester Moderator? Reicht nicht eins von beiden (idealerweise die Frage nach GUT statt der nach SCHLECHT)? So zeigen die Antworten eher auf, wie widersprüchlich die Ergebnisse sind, oder? :-D.

    Zumal ich hier ja die Mischung derzeit wirklich mag – Indra und Simone sind eher straight in ihrem Auftreten, oft gut vorbereitet und professionell, Clemens und Alessio eher verspielt/verpeilt/quergebürstet… das funktioniert gerade zusammen (fand ich) recht gut. Mit Ausnahme der Fragen am Ende, die man echt entweder sein lassen sollte oder anders angeht. Bei Sol Sender war das ja schon etwas seltsam :-D.

    Du hast Recht, HD. Das sollten wir beim nächsten Mal ändern. Es gibt auch noch den Vorschlag, statt mag ich/mag ich nicht Punkte von 1-5 zu vergeben. Dann plane ich, die Wertungen der Sprecher außerhalb der Hall mit einem Multiplikator zu behandeln, der die Saalgröße widerspiegelt: Show x 2 und Stage/Lab x 3.

    Ich finde gut/schlecht als Bewertung schon wichtig. Stimme allerdings Jürgen zu, dass evt. per Abstufung zu machen. Aber wenn Sprecher so schlecht sind wie Nomad z.B., dann muss man das auch irgendwo angeben können :-)

    HD, Deine Anregung ist wirklich gut. Und Dein Kompliment sehr schön. Danke!
    Die Frage mit den Fragen hat so viele Facetten, da müssen wir doch noch mal gut überlegen. Vielleicht ist weglassen doch die beste Möglichkeit. Mit der Stage hat man ja auch jetzt die Möglichkeit viele der Sprecher direkt selbst zu fragen… I’ll put my thinking cap on.

Writer / Graphic Designer (New York, New York)

The history of book design can be split into two eras: before graphic designer Chip Kidd and after. Time Out New York, Nov. 2005 Chip Kidd is a writer and graphic designer in New York City. His book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf (where he has worked since 1986) have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. In 1997 he received the International Center of Photography's award for Use of Photography in Graphic Design, and he is a regular contributor of visual commentary to the Op-ed page of the New York Times. In the fall of 2006, Kidd's work will be included in the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's third National Design Triennial. Mr Kidd has also written about graphic design and popular culture for McSeeney's, The New York Times, The New York Observer, Entertainment Weekly, Details, The New York Post, ID and Print. His first book as author and designer, Batman Collected (Bulfinch, 1996), was given the Design Distinction award from ID magazine, and his second, Batman Animated (HarperCollins, Fall 1998) garnered two of the Comics Industry's Eisner Awards, as did his 2002 book Peanuts: The Art of Charles M. Schulz. As an editor of books of comics for Pantheon (a subsidiary of Knopf) Kidd has worked extensively with some of the most brilliant talents practicing today, including: Chris Ware, Art Spiegelman, Dan Clowes, Kim Deitch, Charles Burns, Mark Beyer, Ben Katchor and Alex Ross. A comprehensive monograph of Kidd's work, CHIP KIDD: BOOK ONE was published in October of 2005. The introduction is by John Updike and the 400 page book features over 800 works, spanning two decades, from 1986 through 2006. It's first edition sold out a week before publication and it has since gone into two consecutive re-printings. The Cheese Monkeys, Kidd's first novel, was published by Scribner in Fall of 2001 and was a national bestseller, as well as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. He is currently at work on his second novel, tentatively titled The Learners. Both books use the design process as a means to construct a compelling narrative.

Mario Lombardo

Mario Lombardo works for a variety of music, DVD, fashion label and magazine companies. He was the art director of SPEX magazine and in 2004, he founded the BUREAU Mario Lombardo in Cologne. He works primarily with the print medium in the cultural arena – music, fashion, photography, design, architecture, contemporary art and TV. Lombardo’s work is interdisciplinary, creating connections between language, space, aesthetics, material and poetry. He is art director for Liebling magazine and member of the jury for a variety of photography and design competitions, as well as teaching at design colleges. His work has been honoured with more than 70 national and international design awards.
Philippe Apeloig

Philippe Apeloig born in 1962 Paris, France Philippe Apeloig was educated at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. After graduating and taking two transformative training periods at Total Design in Amsterdam, he worked as a designer for Musée d’Orsay in Paris from 1985 to 1987. Apeloig has taught typography and graphic design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris from 1992 to 1999, and the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City from 1999 to 2002. He established his own design studio in Paris in 1989 and works on design projects such as posters, logos, typefaces, books, and communication materials for cultural events, publishers and institutions. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale.
Gemma O’Brien

Gemma O’Brien

Illustrator, Typographer, Lettering Artist (Sydney)

Gemma O’Brien is an Australian artist specialising in hand-lettering, illustration and typography. She has created work for clients including Woolworths, QANTAS, Heinz, The New York Times, Volcom, Angus & Julia Stone, Monster Children, Smirnoff and Kirin.  Gemma has also worked in art direction for motion graphics at Animal Logic, Fuel VFX and Toby & Pete. In addition to commercial work, her artwork has been exhibited in numerous gallery shows and she hosts hand-lettering workshops across Australia. She has presented at design conferences including TYPO Berlin, TYPO San Francisco,  Semi Permanent,  agIdeas International Design Forum, and Typism. In her spare time she travels and illustrates puke-puns on airsick bags for The Spew Bag Challenge. Gemma is represented by The Jacky Winter Group and is a Volcom Womens Ambassador for creative and art based projects.
Gemma O'Brien

Gemma O’Brien (Mrs Eaves)

Mrs Eaves (aka Gemma O’Brien) has become one of Australia’s most visible typography enthusiasts. O’Brien is a member of the International Society of Typographic Designers, and her practice includes design for the studio Vaux Creative, freelance projects in Sydney and Brisbane including art direction of the publication Tharunka, works for The University of New South Wales, and self-initiated campiagns such as the internationally known Write Here Right Now which has received over 200,000 views on YouTube.In 2007, O’Brien began an anonymousonline publication under the typo-persona of Mrs Eaves. For The Love of Type collects experimentations, archives finished designs and traces through chronologoical narrative the development of her practice since its creation.
