6 questions to … David Carson

He is one of the most influential and at the same time one of the most controversial designers of our time – David Carson. He impressed a whole generation of graphic designers, his talks are well remembered … And of course, his answers on our little Q&A are also unique … short and to the point! We are looking foward to TYPO Berlin where he’ll serve us one hour of cool graphic design, surf images and things we have never seen before!

David Carson’s style

1. Roots is the topic of TYPO Berlin 2014. What comes to your mind, when you hear this theme?

Shoes that were popular in the 70’s in America.

2. Which design project was good and fundamental enough to trigger modern ideas and concepts?

RayGun magazine.

3. What relationship is there between your work and the TYPO theme?

None really. Though I have been doing this for 20+ years, so maybe I have some roots in design somewhere.

4. Which are the 3 projects you are particularly proud of, and why?

Beach culture magazine, Ted Grambeua 2014 calendar cover, the Nine Inch Nails projects. Recent work for British National Theatre and my new book! Is that 3?
