Creating Successful AR/VR Experiences with Text

TYPO Labs 2018 How far can we go? | Friday, 13 April | 2:30 pm | Nave | English

Augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) are evolving from novelties to mainstream entities of our daily lives.

Despite all the progress in the AR/VR space, there is a fundamental, unsolved challenge relating to the creation of aesthetic, localized experiences with text in them that work across the spectrum of devices. This is because setting text in AR/VR presents new design challenges that are dramatically different from almost anything that has been designed before for these environments. Take for instance, the fact that text in AR is presented on unpredictable and ever-changing backgrounds, and often with the need to be receptive to information in both the foreground and background.

In this session we will talk about:

  • The state of text in AR/VR in the industry
  • The challenges with using text in AR/VR
  • Practical guidelines on how to create AR/VR experiences with text in them that are legible, localized, dynamic, and work across a range of devices
