Gabriel Martínez Meave

Gabriel Martínez Meave is a graphic and typographic designer, illustrator and calligrapher. He was born and lives in Mexico City, working at his studio Kimera and his foundry KTF. Meave has designed custom fonts for national clients such as Telcel, the financial diary El Economista, Jumex, and El Palacio de Hierro department stores, as well as the institutional typeface for the Mexican federal government. His original fonts Arcana and Organica are distributed by Adobe Systems. He has executed design, illustration and lettering projects for Corona beer, P&G, McMillan, Pearson Education, FCE, and diverse publications, books, ad agencies, publishers, and design firms.

Meave teaches calligraphy and typography at Universidad Anáhuac and gives workshops and lectures in Mexico and abroad. He has received five awards from the Type Directors Club of New York and three from the ATypI, and has had several typefaces selected for Tipos Latinos biennials in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. Phaidon Books’ juried guide to graphics, Area_2, published in 2009, included Meave as one of the 100 most important emergent designers in the world today.
