Tricotype (Alpha-knit)

TYPO Berlin 2018 Trigger | Thursday, 17 May | 5:00 pm | Stage | English

TRICOTYPE is the first ever type foundry for knitted letterforms

Join our workshop & help us create a new “typespace” where the art & craft of textiles collides with type design…

…on a knitting machine.

Workshop participants will design a letterform using traditional punchcard techniques and manufacture a knitted pattern sample to take home and keep.

During this process we discuss the pros & cons of the punchcard from a type design perspective & consider how to negotiate recognizable glyph structures within the limitations of a very low resolution design space.

The finished designs will be compiled into a patternzine that will make a contribution to the well-established tradition of self- publishing & pattern-sharing within the knitting community.

May 18 & 19 at 10.00 & 12.00

Six places per session

The workshop takes about 90 minutes.
