Design has been an integral part of the Walker Art Center’s history since the 1940s. In this talk, Emmet will present the work of the Walker’s in-house design studio, with a focus on its publishing efforts in both print and online media. How does a cultural institution focused on the architecture of the gallery, the cinema, and the theater, publish for the architecture of the internet? How do designers, as shapers of content, engender this process? When do publishing and branding become one and the same? And what happens when contemporary art abandons the carefully constructed framework of the art institution and is forced to exist in the online world?
