Beyond Body Setting

TYPO Berlin 2009 Space | Saturday, 23 May | 5:00 pm | english

In her lecture at TYPO Berlin 2009, titled Beyond Body Setting Mrs Eaves will discuss her philosophy towards design and typography, which has been fostered by the self-publication of her methods of practice. Her approach is based in free media experimentation as design process, which results in works that engage the letter as physical manifestation of play. »My work explores lettering from a tactile, media-driven process, each design extends beyond the flat page and retains something of the haptic experience of its own creation.« In addition to a discussion of her process and the conceptual background behind many of her projects, Mrs Eaves will present a short documentary which she is producing in the months leading up to the conference. The short-film will explore current typographic attitudes in Australia, presenting interviews with leading
practitioners, educators and historicans, and visit sites of typographic interest.
