Michael Schreckenberg, born in 1956, studied theoretical physics in Cologne, where he got in 1985 his PhD in statistical physica. In 1994 he moved to the Gerhard-Mercator-University Duisburg, where he became the first German professor for Physiks of Transport and Traffic in 1977. Since more thn ten years he is working on modelling, simulation and optimisation of largescale transportation systems, especially road traffic and the influence of human behaviour on it.
