Chemist and founder of EPEA International Umweltforschung GmbH in Hamburg and co-founder of MBDC, McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also serves as the Director of Science for the Hamburg Environmental Institute e.V., which has completed studies for the past ten years on the environmental performance of the world’s 50 largest chemical producers. Prior to starting EPEA in 1987, he was the director of Greenpeace’s chemistry section. Since 1984 he has been lecturing on critical new concepts for ecological chemistry and materials flow management at universities, businesses, and institutions around the world.
