Rolf Mehnert, Helmut Ness and Holger Schmidhuber studied communication design at the FH Wiesbaden. In 1997 they founded the design bureau Fuenfwerken in Wiesbaden and today they work for clients such as the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft. For a Wayfinding-study on behalf of the MVG in Munich they developed, along with Prof. Werner Schneider, the information-type Vialog (Linotype), which is today in use as corporate- and information-type in Munich.

The three designers are members of the IIID (International Institute for information design), the TDC and the DDC.
