Ed van Hinte

Industrial Designer (The Netherlands)

Ed van Hinte (1951) was trained as an industrial designer. He has written many articles and books and is an acclaimed design critic, focusing on professional conventions. His main interest is on finding ways to reduce material flows. The most important ones: lightweight structures, food waste reduction and long-term product value cultivation. In 1993, he got involved in a project entitled Eternally Yours, to study product life extension. This has been a major field of interest to him ever since, with respect to all fields of design. The same is true for lightweight structures. He likes to point out ways to go from where material abundance starts, in our incontrollable minds, rather than suggesting ways to reduce it.
