Antonia M. Cornelius (*1989) successfully completed her Master’s degree in communication design at the end of 2017. She studied with the focus on typeface design with Prof. Jovica Veljović at the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg.
Already at the beginning of her studies Cornelius developed her enthusiasm for typefaces. While designing her first text typeface initial intuition gradually became experience. The resulting font family Legilux soon turned out very legible especially in small sizes and an early version was already able to win the 1st Public Choice Award of the Morisawa Type Design Competition 2016.
Powered by the question what makes her typeface more legible than others Cornelius is increasingly focusing on legibility research. For that she also took advantage of two guest semesters with Albert-Jan Pool at the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, Kiel.
In her book “Letters in your head. What creatives should know about reading processes to design reading delight”, published by Hermann Schmidt in October 2017, Cornelius bundles her collected knowledge about perception, reading processes, typeface design and typography.
