Sprecher #typo13: Garland bewegt London

Places to grow with, places to experience, places to love. Ultimately, places that tell a story. Morag Myerscough’s talk takes us on a fast paced journey through her colourful work. And life. Perhaps the two are now very much intertwined, as she explains a revaluation of principles after she met Luke Morgan, Elvis fan and long term collaborator. “If life is about enjoying yourself, and if your work is your life, than the projects you embark on should follow those same values.”
John Hudson is a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, he teaches on both undergraduate and post-graduate courses at Staffordshire and Worcester University. He holds an MA with distinction in Sustainable Graphic Communication and is currently working towards a research PhD that looks at ways to embed responsibility within design curriculum. John’s varied background includes running his own artisan bakery, old house restoration and IT consultant. He has spent the last ten years working and studying as a UK based graphic designer and lecturer.
On leaving the Royal College of Art in 1987 Andy Altmann formed the multi disciplinary design group Why Not Associates with fellow graduates Howard Greenhalgh and David Ellis.
Neville Brody doesn’t want you to think outside the box: it would appear he’d prefer you do something like tear it up, tape it back together, spray paint it, wear it as a hat, and then throw it out. Brody wants designers to decide what to do with their own boxes. Since we’ve moved from a physical to digital space, Brody feels that experimentation has given way to an engineering approach. “Facebook feels very much like a grown up version of AOL.” The world starts to look the same.
Morag Myerscough talked about many things today. Among these a common point that she came back to was her various obsessions. These obsessions are important because they are what ended up being the definitions of her own style. Which when you think about it makes sense.
Eva-Lotta Lamm is funny. She kicked off her talk on sketchnotes by declaring her love for the Pixies. She also doesn’t cook but makes great salads, doesn’t drive a car, and loves fresh fruit with yogurt and muesli for breakfast.

Kutlu Çanlıoğlu has extensive experience as a user experience designer. We look forward to hearing from Kutlu at this year’s TYPO San Francisco.
