RIA Novosti initiated many interactive, educational and informative projects covering a big variety of topics. For instance, one can take a virtual tour through a freshly renovated Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow or get an explicit overview of the History of UEFA European Football Championships.

Alexey Novichkov developed a system of templates which eases work of graphic designers and significantly speeds up the workflow. Alexey’s templates and grids are used by his colleagues to keep educational websites coherent and clear and to present curious facts in a most attractive way.

One of the most notable projects is the website about Titanic. It shows accurately a structure of the famous ship: Titanic’s interiors were reconstructed by photographs and modeled in 3D, so everyone can explore such a famous object himslef. “Russian designers love jokes” said Alexey. And indeed — several websites contain some funny hidden elements. Like Godzilla which appears on the website devoted to Formula 1 after a secret code is entered. By the way, the typeface created by TypoBerlin speaker Alexandra Korolkova (PT Sans) is used in all these projects.

Mikhail Simakov in turn is responsible for infographics at the Moskovskiye Novosti newspaper. He brought the audience through the process of choosing a topic, making first sketches and fine-tuning the final product. Mikhail and his colleagues are paying serious attention to the efficient workflow — that influences not only quality of their work but also speed (which a crucial factor working for a newspaper). It is no wonder that his talk was clearly structured and full of schemes explaining the working process.

Subjects for infographics are usually chosen by Mikhail’s team — diving, color analysis of Van Gogh’s paintings, Curiosity project, traffic jams in Moscow, efficiency of the snowblowers..  It seems, anything can cause interest of Mikhail and his colleagues and be processed into impressive infographics.
