Thilo von Debschitz

Thilo von Debschitz

Thilo von Debschitz is managing director of the much-lauded design agency Q in Wiesbaden. Meanwhile, he has been working with his sister Uta on an extra-curricular treasure-hunting project. The two did extensive research in international archives in order to bring the work of forgotten author Dr. Fritz Kahn (1888 – 1968) back into the public eye. Kahn was considered a pioneer in information design, known for his fascinating image comparisons, mostly revolving around the human body. In honour of the 125th year of Kahn’s birth, on September 29, 2013, the Debschitz siblings published a 392-page monograph entitled “Fritz Kahn” (pub: Taschen), which Fast Company magazine dubbed one of the best design books of the year. It was also selected for inclusion in global organization TED’s book club. Thilo and Uta von Debschitz appeared at  TYPO Berlin in 2010. This year, the designer will be providing an update on Kahn, as well as presenting some newly-rediscovered illustrations by Kahn.

Carlos Segura

Carlos Segura came to the United States from Cuba at the age of nine. He worked for many prestigious ad agencies, including BBDO, Young & Rubicam, and DDB Needham. In 1991 he founded Segura Inc., Chicago, to pursue design more creatively with the goal of blending as much “fine art” into “commercial art” as he could. In 1994, the T26 Digital Type Foundry was born to explore the typographical side of the business. In 2001, Segura again ventured into new territory by starting 5inch, and in 2004, launched CarType with further expansions of the typographical segment with BikeType, MotoType and TruckType. Segura Inc. and T26 have received numerous awards, including from the Tokyo Type Directors Club, The Society of Typographic Arts, the New York Art Directors Club, the New York Type Directors Club, and the American Center for Design. In 2004, Carlos Segura was named one of the 21st Century’s 100 best designers and was honoured with Europe’s Red Dot Award. His work has appeared in many journals and publications, and in exhibits from the Denver Art Museum to Tokyo Japan.

Julian Smith

Julian Smith should be preparing to graduate film school, but the fact that he never went only makes his success story harder to believe. After starting a production company at the age of 15, having his first film premier at 17, and directing major music videos by 20, Julian left it all to create comedy sketches on the internet. His work has been seen by millions of people worldwide and now he's making his mark in television and film.
