Madeleine Morley is a design and art writer based in Berlin and London. She’s staff writer for AIGA’s Eye on Design, and contributes to Eye, Creative Review, Monotype’s The Recorder, AnOther, Dazed and Confused Magazine, amongst others. She was previously editor of the magCulture journal and on the editorial team at It’s Nice That, and has a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University and an MA in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art.
What effect has digital culture had on print design? Conventional cover design lore determines a front should have a face, layers, and hovering cover lines to draw a reader in. Now that a magazine is marketed online more than on the newsstands, are there new rules to follow? By looking at a range of both independent and well-known titles, this talk will track the various ways that editorial designers have responded to the new circumstances of the web.
