»Bauhaus, Zurich, Basel – and something more«

Without El Lissitzky and Bauhaus, the »Swiss typography« of the 1940s – 1960s would never have existed. They were represented by the AGS (comprehensive trade school) in Basel, with Emil Ruder and Robert Büchler, while Zurich had Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, Josef Müller-Brockmann, Hans Neuburg and Carlo Vivarelli. It was above all younger graphic artists in German-speaking Switzerland who were influenced by their work. But there were others; designers who were inspired by what was going on in Zurich and Basel, but who were located far from the mainstream. We tend to forget them.
