He studied Japanology at the University of Hamburg and traveled in the early years of his professional career frequently to Japan, to educate the IKARUS font-production tools there. Over the years he specialized in the ideal representation of fonts on the screen and the complex assembly of Global fonts with scripts from all parts of the world. At URW++ he extensively contributed to the technological progress. In his latest project Michael has put the emphasis on developing a highly legible typeface. Especially interested in the functionality he designed Arsapia, which he has installed as a system font on all his computers.
