Mariko Takagi is a go-between between cultures (of writing), with typography being the common denominator. Takagi is a typographer, book designer and author of numerous books on Japanese culture. Since 2008 she has studied Japanese and Chinese typography. Her doctoral thesis at the Braunschweig University of Art focused on the visual encounter of Japan and the West, with particular consideration of the representation of scripts and typography. Mariko Takagi is a Professor for Typography and Book Design. She teaches and carries out research at the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University.
