Ferdinand Ulrich

Typographer / Type Researcher (Berlin)

Ferdinand Ulrich is a typographer and type researcher. He designs books in his Berlin-based studio, regularly writes articles for FontShop.com and spends most of his time in Erik Spiekermann’s typographic workshop p98a berlin, experimenting and printing on letterpress machines. After three years as an assistant lecturer at the University of Art and Design in Halle/Saale, he currently teaches typography at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

Ferdinand discovered an interest in type history during his studies at Berlin University of the Arts and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh/PA and has lectured about and published his research in the USA, in the UK and in Germany. He now pursues a PhD in typographic research at the University of Reading, UK.
