Jacob Bilabel

Jacob Bilabel is co-founder and managing director of Berlin based Think-Do Tank THEMA1. With the aim of driving social change, THEMA1 develops, initiates and operates complex international multi-stakeholder processes. In 2008 he founded the pan European Green Music Initiative, which acts as a platform coordinating the music and entertainment industry’s effort to minimise their climate impact.

Previously Jacob has held positions as Head of Marketing at MySpace Germany and Vice President New Business & Communications at Universal Music Germany. In the 2005 elections, he was a personal consultant to Joschka Fischer, Germany’s Foreign Minister at the time. He is a mentor of the Akademie der Künste (University of the Arts) in Berlin, a founding member of the Re-Design Deutschland Initiative, and a board member of Berlin’s Chamber of Commerce for Creative Industries. Jacob Bilabel is also serving as a part of the German Technical mirror committee for the new ISO 20121 standard for Sustainability in Event Management, teaches at the Academy of Baden-Württemberg and at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences.

Sustainability is a complex affair. Everybody wants to join in. Alas, you’re usually asked to refrain from doing certain things. And what is more: you should refrain from doing what you enjoy most. Thus, the behaviour gap becomes a behaviour valley. Wouldn’t it be great if the things we love were just what the planet needs?
